Some people are eager to put in their own spin on things, and this is where modding comes in. This is a play on the word modification, which basically is altering something. This could be for cosmetic or practical purposes. For example, if you are in the kitchen, it would not be enough for you to do some oven cleaning. Rather, you would go for stuff like converting the knobs to electronic buttons or replacing the built-in stove burners with induction panels. Why do people do this? Well, for one, the base item could have a body that has a distinct look, but its internals may not be what you prefer. So to get the best of both worlds, you mod the parts that you do not like.
The world of modding has been with us for a long time. But throughout the years, more people have gotten into it. The tools have also evolved, and here are some handheld ones that you need to look out for if you want to get started.
Oscillating Tool
This is a compact tool that can be used to cut or trim off all kinds of materials. Its size lets you maneuver it easily and lets you get to even the tightest spaces. It features an angled tip that has a serrated edge like a saw. The oscillating motion has this moving from side to side almost in a vibrating fashion. This allows it to cut through wood and even some metals. The L-shaped tip also lets you get under thick carpeting, and this will let you scrape off the adhesive so you can lift it off the floor.
Nail Gun
Hammers are some of the most basic tools known to man, and it has a fool-proof function. Just put the grip in hand, and strike the nail on the head. It does not get simpler than that. But necessity is the mother of invention, and if you need to get something done quickly without needing muscular arms, then the nail gun is for you. Mind you, it is still a heavy tool, but its genius lies in how its pneumatic engine thrusts out a nail and sinking it in one second. Compare that with the many hits you have to make with a hammer, with the threat of hitting your finger as a bonus.
Glue Gun
The only thing as exciting as watching paint dry is watching glue dry. If the latter is on your mind right now, add some spice into your life by getting a glue gun. Are you annoyed with having containers that have dried-up glue in them piling up at home? The great thing about this gun is you never have to see them anymore. Glue sticks are already initially dry, easy to store, and you can use them as needed.
The glue gun works by feeding a glue stick into its chamber, which is actually a heating section. The melted glue then oozes out of the nozzle, ready to be applied to whatever needs sticking. You do not have to wait long before it dries, making it ideal for rush projects.
A lot of people are now into modding. It does not really aim to change a product completely. It is more about making something your own by putting your own unique spin into it. If you want to get into this hobby, prepare yourself for a brutal trial and error phase. So make sure you are also willing to let go of the items you will work on in case things go South. But once you get past that, you will soon mod like a pro.
